A few years I did 25 days of Christmas picture books here on the blog. For 25 days I blogged about a different Christmas book (you can find all of those posts HERE). Well this year, I ain't got time for that, so I've decided to blog about 25 more Christmas picture books, but this time they'll all be in one post.

Free Polar Express Train Tickets

As a general rule I don't do anything Christmassy before December 1st. There are no holiday books in my classroom library, no Christmas art has been completed by my students, and my house won't see a Christmas tree for at least a few weeks.

But today...I am breaking that rule. I know the next three weeks are going to fly by, so I'm trying to get a little jump start on anything holiday related.

A few years ago I blogged about The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg and included some free train tickets. You can read that post {HERE}, but I thought I'd kick off this holiday season by updating that freebie.

The Christmas season is a great time to make lasting memories for your students. Host a day filled with The Polar Express by having students wear pajamas, setting up your chairs to resemble train seats, and serving hot chocolate. Round out the day by providing students with a train ticket to help make the day complete. You can click {HERE} to grab the tickets.

25 Days of Christmas Picture Books - Day 25

So here we are, the last day of my Christmas picture books countdown.

Of course, for Day 25, I had to choose 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore. A Christmas classic it truly is. There are so many versions and illustrations available for this book that you could read a new one each year to keep it interesting.

25 Days of Christmas Picture Books - Day 24 (& a freebie)

Well, it's the second to last day of my countdown - that sure went fast. I cannot believe that tomorrow is Christmas Eve, I am so not ready!

Today's pick is Merry Christmas, Splat by Rob Scotton. I love Scotton's illustrations and his Splat series is no exception.

This is a sweet story but beware *spoiler alert*, the ending is left up to the reader. For kids this might be a problem, but I think it's a great idea to turn it into a creative writing lesson. I've provided two printable writing prompts. Have your students write about what they think Splat received as a present.

Well today's post is going to be extra short because I almost missed blogging today! I have spent the whole day running around, trying to get everything finished before Christmas Eve. Apparently leaving everything until the last minute is NOT a good idea - who knew?

25 Days of Christmas Picture Books - Day 22

Well how did I celebrate the start of Christmas vacation? By watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! It was a great idea!

So with only a few days left in my countdown, today's book is How Santa Got His Job by Stephen Krensky.

Students will love reading about all the jobs he had before and all the events that led him to becoming Santa Claus. This is also a great book to teach about cause and effect.

In completely unrelated news, I took the opportunity of Christmas vacation to finish my new (unrelated to Christmas) unit:

This unit contains 27 mini-books for letter practice. The ABC practice book contains one page for each letter of the alphabet, and then there are 26 mini-books, one for each letter of the alphabet. Click {HERE} or the pictures to check it out.
